Qatar Ministry of Education to Launch TIMSS 2027 Pilot Test in March

Qatar to launch TIMSS 2027 pilot study in March 2025 to evaluate student proficiency in mathematics and science.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has confirmed the commencement of the pilot phase for the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 2027). The preliminary testing period, scheduled to run from March 2 to March 13, 2025, serves as a critical evaluation window for Qatar's educational performance against global benchmarks. Assessment Scope and Participation TIMSS, an international assessment conducted every four years by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), measures the mathematics and science proficiency of students in the fourth and eighth grades. The 2027 cycle marks the sixth time Qatar has participated in the study since 2007. The pilot test will involve a designated sample of schools across the country to refine assessment tools before the full-scale implementation in 2027. Ministry officials stated that the pilot phase ensures the technical accuracy of test items and the efficiency of data collection procedures.
