Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged on Sunday, 23 August, that the nation faces "many problems" as domestic economic pressure mounts following a new wave of United States sanctions. The admission follows a pledge by U.S. President Donald Trump to bring about the "collapse" of the Iranian administration, approximately six months into an ongoing conflict. Execution and Domestic Crackdowns Iran executed Majid Adineh on Sunday morning after his conviction by the Karaj Revolutionary Court for "operational action in favour of hostile groups." Adineh was accused of using a chainsaw during anti-government protests in January and was charged as an agent for Israel and the United States. His death sentence, which included the confiscation of all property, was upheld by the Supreme Court after an unsuccessful appeal. Separately, Iranian police reported a major seizure of satellite communication equipment. Economic Security Police Chief Hossein Rahimi confirmed on Sunday that authorities confiscated 997 Starlink devices and arrested 163 individuals over the last four months. The equipment reportedly entered Iran via Azerbaijan and the Iraq Kurdistan Region.
