Global trust in Dubai legal system grows as 30% of court cases opt in from abroad

DIFC Courts recorded 243 opt-in cases in H1 2026, with parties from 22 global jurisdictions choosing Dubai for dispute resolution.
The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts handled 243 opt-in cases during the first half of 2026, with 30 percent of its total caseload originating from parties choosing the forum despite being located outside the free zone. Data released on Tuesday, 18 August, shows the court system managed 810 cases across all divisions during the six-month period. The Small Claims Tribunal (SCT) processed 201 of these opt-in filings, while 42 cases were distributed across the Court of First Instance (CFI), the Arbitration Division, and the Digital Economy Court (DEC). The cases involved businesses and individuals from 22 overseas jurisdictions across five continents, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, India, Germany, Switzerland, the United States, and Australia. International Reach of Commercial Divisions In the Court of First Instance, 30 opt-in claims were recorded in H1 2026. Data shows that 47 percent of these cases involved at least one party based outside the UAE, and in several instances, none of the parties had a physical presence in the country. The Digital Economy Court also handled a case involving parties from the United Kingdom, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, El Salvador, and Vietnam. The Arbitration Division reported that eight out of 11 opt-in cases filed in the first half of the year related to arbitrations seated in international hubs, including Singapore, Hong Kong, London, Paris, and Stockholm.
