Yellow Door Energy CEO Jeremy Crane says solar and battery storage is now the cheapest 24/7 power source for regional factories.
Solar power integrated with battery energy storage systems (BESS) will lead the next phase of renewable energy expansion in the UAE as industrial demand for 24/7 power surges, according to Jeremy Crane, Group CEO and Founder of Yellow Door Energy. Speaking on Wednesday, 4 November at ADIPEC 2026 in Abu Dhabi, Crane stated that the combination of solar and storage has become the most cost-effective energy solution for factories over the last 24 months. This shift is driven by the rapid growth of data centres, rising population, and regional GDP expansion, which are collectively reversing a decade-long trend of stabilizing energy demand. Data centres bypass grid delays The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the subsequent need for massive data processing hubs have created a bottleneck for traditional power grids. Crane noted that while developers often face wait times of 24 months or more for a standard grid connection, a localized solar and battery system can be deployed within six to 12 months. This speed of implementation allows data centres to begin operations significantly earlier than those relying solely on utility infrastructure. "The demand is here," Crane said, noting that batteries are essential to solving solar energy’s primary limitation—intermittency caused by nighttime or weather fluctuations. Cost and resilience advantages The integration of batteries allows businesses to shift energy generated during peak midday hours to the evening and night. This…
