US warns citizens in UAE and Jordan after deadly Saudi airport strikes

The US Embassy and Mission in the UAE warn of travel disruptions and security threats following deadly Houthi strikes on Saudi airports.
The US Mission to the UAE and the US Embassy in Jordan issued urgent security alerts on Friday, 9 October, warning American citizens of escalating regional tensions following Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabian infrastructure. The advisories cite a "complex security environment" and warn of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and targeted threats against US businesses and institutions overseas by Iran and its proxies. Casualties reported in airport strikes The warnings follow confirmed Houthi strikes on Thursday, 8 October, targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport. According to Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), a strike on Riyadh’s airport hit a Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) aircraft and airport facilities, killing three Saudi nationals. Several other residents of various nationalities sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. GACA confirmed that emergency teams were deployed immediately to manage material damage and secure the site. Regional military and diplomatic response In response to the escalation, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed that its forces currently deployed in Saudi Arabia are operating in a defensive capacity under the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement.
