The US Department of Commerce has eased export restrictions on advanced technologies to the UAE, a move that streamlines the procurement of high-performance artificial intelligence (AI) chips and semiconductor components. The policy update, issued by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), facilitates the transfer of sophisticated hardware to authorized UAE entities. Validated End-User status The revised regulations introduce the "Validated End-User" (VEU) program for the UAE. Under this framework, pre-approved companies can import specific US technologies without requiring individual export licenses for every shipment. This status significantly reduces administrative delays for UAE-based firms and data centers seeking to deploy US-made computing power, including hardware from manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD. The decision follows a series of high-level security agreements between Washington and Abu Dhabi. In April 2024, Microsoft announced a $1.5 billion investment in the UAE’s AI firm G42.
