Official data published by the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) revealed that the headline Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index—the Fed’s preferred gauge of consumer inflation—increased 3.7 percent in the 12 months through July, unchanged from June’s reading and slightly above Wall Street consensus projections.
