The United Kingdom has concluded negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), becoming the first G7 nation to secure a comprehensive trade pact with the regional bloc. The deal is designed to expand a bilateral trading relationship that was valued at approximately £57 billion (AED 267 billion) in 2023. Trade Volume and Economic Impact The agreement covers the six GCC member states: the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman. UK government projections indicate the deal could boost the British economy by £1.6 billion over the long term. For the Gulf states, the pact secures preferential access to the UK market for energy products, petrochemicals, and various industrial goods. Current trade figures show the GCC is already the UK’s fourth-largest trading partner outside of the European Union. In 2023, the UAE alone accounted for nearly half of the total trade volume between the UK and the GCC.
