UAE motorists face a potential increase in fuel costs for October as global oil prices remain elevated, with Brent crude trading above $101 on Thursday, 24 September. The international benchmark rose 2.3% to $101.52 a barrel, reversing a brief dip to $98.99 earlier in the session. Global Market Volatility Drives Pressure The current price of Brent crude is approximately 41% higher than the $72 per barrel recorded in late February. Market volatility persists due to ongoing regional supply concerns, with Brent nearing $110 last week before a temporary retreat. Data shows that oil prices have remained consistently high throughout September, increasing the likelihood of an upward adjustment by the UAE fuel price committee. Retail fuel prices in the UAE are adjusted monthly based on international refined product trends. Current September rates stand at Dh3.80 per litre for Super 98, Dh3.69 for Special 95, and Dh3.61 for E-Plus 91. Diesel is currently priced at Dh4.30 per litre. While these rates are below the 2026 peak of Dh3.95 for Super 98 seen in June, the sustained $100-plus crude price puts pressure on the upcoming October review. Impact on UAE Motorists A price hike would directly affect commuting costs across the Emirates. For example, a 10-fils-per-litre increase would add Dh6 to the cost of filling a 60-litre tank and Dh8 to an 80-litre tank.
