The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) has identified six invasive bird species as high-priority threats to the nation’s ecosystems, agriculture, and public health. The classification comes as part of a national strategy to manage invasive species that disrupt local biodiversity and cause economic damage to the farming sector. Priority Invasive Species The list of prioritized avian threats includes the Common Myna, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Red-vented Bulbul, House Crow, Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon), and the Indian Silverbill. These species are characterized by their rapid reproduction rates and ability to adapt to diverse environments, often outcompeting native UAE bird species for nesting sites and food sources. Authorities noted that these birds were largely introduced to the region through the pet trade or as stowaways on commercial shipping vessels.
