The Ministry of Health and Prevention approves a pill-based alternative to weekly injections for obesity management.
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has approved a new once-daily oral medication for weight management, providing a non-invasive alternative to the injectable treatments currently available in the Emirates. The approval allows healthcare providers to prescribe the pill to patients struggling with chronic obesity and related metabolic disorders. Clinical Eligibility and Administration The medication is specifically indicated for adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or higher, classified as obese. It is also available to overweight individuals with a BMI of 27 kg/m² or higher who present at least one weight-related health complication, such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or dyslipidemia. Unlike existing GLP-1 receptor agonists that require weekly subcutaneous injections, this treatment is a tablet taken once every 24 hours.
