UAE Establishes Federal AI and Data Authority to Standardize Digital Governance

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued Federal Decree-Law No. 16 of 2024, establishing the UAE Federal Authority for AI and Data Governance. The new entity operates as an independent federal body reporting directly to the UAE Cabinet, tasked with regulating the country’s rapidly expanding artificial intelligence sector and data management infrastructure. Regulatory Scope and Mandate The authority is mandated to develop and implement comprehensive policies for AI ethics, data privacy, and digital governance across all federal entities.
