DUBAI / ABU DHABI - Demonstrating the rich social cohesion and cultural diversity that define everyday life in the United Arab Emirates, hundreds of thousands of residents and families across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates have embraced the festive holiday weekend with an array of colorful cultural gatherings, elaborate floral art installations, and traditional community feasts. The harvest and cultural festivities, widely observed by the substantial Malayali expatriate community hailing from the southern Indian state of Kerala, have expanded over decades into a cherished nationwide cultural occasion embraced by diverse expatriate communities and citizens alike. The spirit of togetherness, generosity, and renewal that underpins the celebrations has found a natural home within the UAE's inclusive social fabric. In Abu Dhabi, one of the most striking visual tributes took place at Burjeel Medical City (BMC), where more than 1,000 doctors, nurses, administrative staff, and medical technicians representing 35 distinct nationalities joined hands to craft a massive floral carpet, known as a Pookalam.
