UAE builds sustainable Gaza lifeline via desalination plants and field hospitals

The UAE has transitioned its humanitarian response in Gaza from emergency air drops to the establishment of permanent infrastructure, including water desalination plants and a specialized 100-bed field hospital. Under the ongoing "Gallant Knight 3" operation, the aid strategy now prioritizes long-term utility and medical services for the displaced population. Water and Food Infrastructure A primary component of the UAE’s sustained relief effort is the installation of six desalination plants in Al Arish, Egypt. These facilities produce 1.2 million gallons of potable water daily, which is pumped directly into the Gaza Strip through a two-kilometer pipeline. This infrastructure provides clean water to approximately 600,000 people, addressing a critical shortage of safe drinking water. To address food security, the UAE established five automated bakeries capable of producing thousands of loaves per hour. These facilities augment the "Birds of Goodness" airdrop operation, which has delivered over 3,300 tonnes of food and relief supplies to isolated areas in northern Gaza since the start of the mission.
