UAE Accelerates National Food Security Strategy to Achieve Global Leadership

The UAE targets top ranking in the Global Food Security Index by 2051 through agritech and localized production.

The United Arab Emirates is accelerating its transition from a desert environment with limited agricultural output to a regional leader in food production through the National Food Security Strategy 2051. This transformation focuses on localized production and the integration of high-tech farming solutions to reduce historical reliance on food imports. National Strategy and Global Rankings Central to this shift is the goal to position the UAE at the top of the Global Food Security Index by 2051. The strategy, launched in 2018, targets a 50% reduction in food waste and the development of a comprehensive national system based on enabling sustainable food production. Currently, the UAE has expanded its agricultural footprint to include more than 35,000 farms, utilizing controlled-environment agriculture to bypass traditional climatic limitations. Agritech and Vertical Farming Initiatives To combat water scarcity and soil limitations, the UAE has pivoted toward hydroponics, vertical farming, and aquaponics.
