US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday, 1 October, that the ongoing conflict with Iran is nearing a conclusion, presenting a binary choice between a diplomatic settlement or total military escalation. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump stated the situation would end "very soon, one way or the other," even as he used aggressive rhetoric regarding potential strikes if negotiations fail. US Forces Conclude Iraq Mission The announcement follows the formal conclusion of the US-led coalition mission in Iraq and Syria on Wednesday. The coalition, which deployed in 2014 to dismantle the Islamic State (IS), has officially withdrawn its forces. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) described the exit as a "historic victory" on Thursday, calling for all American troops to depart the Middle East and entrust regional security to local nations.
