Thailand introduces mandatory Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for 93 nations, including the UAE, starting December 2024.
Thailand is overhauling its entry requirements for travelers from 93 countries and territories, including the UAE, India, and the Philippines. Under the new regulations, visitors previously eligible for unconditional visa-free entry must now obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before arriving in the kingdom. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the ETA pilot phase will commence in December 2024, with full mandatory implementation scheduled for June 2025. The system will integrate with automated passport control gates at international airports, utilizing QR codes to expedite entry. While the Thai government indicated the ETA will be free of charge during its initial rollout, long-term fee structures remain under review. Digital Border Integration The ETA grant allows for a single entry and remains valid for a stay of up to 60 days, which can be extended by an additional 30 days at local immigration offices.
