China National Petroleum Corporation reports 26.86 million tonnes of output from the Hade-Fuman field as drilling reaches 8,000-metre depths.

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) announced on Monday, 5 October, that the Hade-Fuman oil field has produced more than 26.86 million tonnes of oil and gas equivalent from ultra-deep reservoirs. The field, located on the northern edge of the Taklimakan Desert in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, extracted resources from depths exceeding 6,000 metres. Drilling depths reach 8,000 metres Data released by CNPC Tarim Oilfield Branch shows the total output includes 20.36 million tonnes of crude oil and 8.15 billion cubic metres of natural gas. The announcement follows the successful retrieval of core samples from a depth of 8,080 metres at the Zhentan-1 well. The extracted rock samples are estimated to be 500 million years old, providing the first geological data from such depths in the Tarim Basin. Xu Yanan, director of the project department at CNPC Tarim Oilfield Branch, stated that the samples allow engineers to evaluate reservoir thickness and the maturity level of oil and gas located below the 8,000-metre threshold. The Tarim Basin holds proven reserves exceeding 5 billion tonnes, with more than 50% situated in ultra-deep formations. Infrastructure and production scale The 17,000-square-kilometre Hade-Fuman field currently operates 485 ultra-deep wells. Production figures indicate that 133 of these wells have individually surpassed 100,000 tonnes of output, while 464 wells have produced at least 10,000 tonnes each. The site has become China’s primary base for…
