Sunonwealth Electric Machine Industry (SUNON) launched its new Green EC Fan series on Wednesday, 29 July, designed to meet the strict energy efficiency requirements of the European Union’s ErP 2026 directive. The hardware is specifically engineered for AI data centres and industrial cooling systems facing increased regulatory pressure to reduce electricity consumption. Efficiency gains for AI cooling The new cooling units utilise Electronically Commutated (EC) technology, which integrates a DC motor with an AC-to-DC converter. According to technical specifications released by the Kaohsiung-based manufacturer, the fans achieve a 40% reduction in power consumption compared to traditional AC motors. This efficiency gain is critical for high-density AI server environments where heat dissipation accounts for a significant portion of operational expenditure. SUNON confirmed that the Green EC Fan series exceeds the minimum efficiency thresholds mandated by the upcoming ErP (Energy-related Products) 2026 regulations. The fans are available in multiple sizes and include integrated IoT monitoring capabilities, allowing facility managers to track real-time airflow and temperature data in large-scale server halls.
