The Georgia project implements high-capacity autonomous transit technology initially pioneered in Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City.
Clayton County, Georgia, has progressed plans to deploy a Glydways personal rapid transit (PRT) system, advancing toward a large-scale autonomous pod network faster than initial pilot cities like Abu Dhabi. The project will connect the City of Morrow to major regional transit hubs using autonomous, four-passenger vehicles operating on dedicated, narrow guideways. While Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City pioneered the world’s first PRT system in 2010, that network remained a 1.4-kilometer pilot. The South Atlanta initiative aims for a broader municipal application, utilizing technology developed by California-based firm Glydways to solve urban "last-mile" connectivity issues. Autonomous Infrastructure Expansion The Glydways system employs self-driving pods that operate on-demand, removing the need for fixed schedules or intermediate stops. Because the vehicles require a path only 1.5 meters wide, the infrastructure footprint is significantly smaller and more cost-effective than traditional light rail or bus rapid transit lanes. The City of Morrow has been positioned as a central node in this network. Local authorities selected the technology to facilitate transit between residential areas…
