SM Supermalls has expanded its network of free electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the Philippines, positioning its retail centers as primary hubs for the country’s emerging green transport infrastructure. The expansion follows the national implementation of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), which mandates that major establishments provide dedicated parking and charging facilities for electric transport. The mall operator currently maintains charging stations at over 50 locations nationwide, including major hubs such as SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, and SM North Edsa. These stations typically utilize Wallbox Pulsar Plus AC chargers, supporting Type 2 connectors compatible with the majority of EV models currently sold in the Philippine market. The service remains free of charge for mall patrons during standard operating hours. Infrastructure and National Legislation Under the EVIDA law, the Philippine government requires 5% of parking spaces in public and private buildings to be dedicated to EVs.
