Sharjah Ruler approves new administrative divisions for Khorfakkan

Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi divides Khorfakkan into four suburbs and orders three new hospitals for the Eastern Region.

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, approved new administrative divisions for Khorfakkan City on Tuesday, 25 August, split into four primary suburbs. The restructuring coincides with the launch of major healthcare projects and a new neighborhood governance model aimed at streamlining public services. New administrative zones and environmental projects The newly defined administrative areas include Khorfakkan City, Al Owainat, Al Sih, and Al Sabihiyah. Under the approved plan, the Khorfakkan City suburb will extend from Khorfakkan Aqaba to Al Luluyah Aqaba. The Sharjah Ruler confirmed that specialized firms will begin planting dense fruit-bearing trees across the mountainous terrain to expand green spaces. The project also involves introducing native wildlife species, such as the mountain mouse and gerbils, to the area's undeveloped lands. In Al Owainat suburb, large-scale terrain modification is planned, with mountains scheduled to be leveled to facilitate the construction of new residential neighborhoods. The Ruler noted that development in Khorfakkan will now accelerate following the clear demarcation of these zones, mirroring the recent administrative overhaul in Kalba.
