Sharjah Police General Command issued a formal warning to motorists regarding the severe risks of jumping red lights, confirming that the violation carries a Dh1,000 fine and 12 black points. The enforcement measure aims to reduce serious traffic accidents and fatalities resulting from intersection collisions across the emirate. According to Federal Traffic Law, the penalty for light vehicles jumping a red signal includes the immediate impoundment of the vehicle for 30 days. Motorists wishing to release their vehicle before the month ends must pay an additional Dh5,000 fee. For heavy vehicles, the penalty is significantly steeper, resulting in a Dh3,000 fine and a one-year suspension of the driver's license. Advanced Monitoring Systems Authorities confirmed that intersections in Sharjah are equipped with high-tech automated surveillance cameras.
