Sharjah City Municipality has launched the "Sustainable Sea" initiative to address marine pollution and remove underwater debris across the emirate’s coastline. The campaign focuses on Khalid Lagoon and Al Khan Beach, deploying specialized diving teams and municipal staff to extract waste that threatens local marine ecosystems. Debris removal at Khalid Lagoon The operational phase of the drive involves divers from the Sharjah City Municipality (SCM) and participating environmental groups. Initial efforts are concentrated on the seabed of Khalid Lagoon, where teams are removing plastic waste, discarded aluminum cans, and abandoned fishing gear. These materials pose a direct risk to marine life and can degrade water quality if left unmanaged. Municipal officials confirmed that the campaign utilizes specialized equipment to lift heavy debris without damaging the surrounding seabed.
