The United States has formally rescinded Syria's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, clearing the way for international investment.

The United States officially removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism on Monday, 24 August, 2026, ending a decades-long designation that blocked international investment and financial transactions. The U.S. Treasury Department confirmed the removal after a mandatory 45-day congressional review period concluded without intervention. Transition under Sharaa Government The policy shift follows a formal notification submitted to Congress by President Donald Trump on 8 July, 2026.
