Rumesh Pathirage secured Sri Lanka’s first athletics gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Tuesday, 29 September, defeating a field of elite competitors including Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem. The 23-year-old recorded a winning throw of 88.55 metres to claim the men’s javelin title. India’s Yashvir Singh took silver with a throw of 85.72 metres, while teammate Rohit Yadav secured bronze at 84.35 metres.
