Dubai commuters can now use QR codes on their smartphones to access the Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, and public buses, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Friday, 9 October. The digital ticketing service allows passengers to bypass physical nol cards and paper tickets by purchasing fares directly through official mobile applications. How to purchase and scan digital tickets Commuters can generate tickets through the nol Pay or S'hail apps. Users select a single-trip ticket or a one-day pass, choose their specific travel zone or destination, and complete the transaction. The digital QR code is issued instantly within the application. For entry, Metro passengers must scan the code at designated blue gates, while bus passengers validate their fare by holding their device over the red nol readers located near bus entrances. According to official RTA service guidelines, unused digital QR tickets remain valid for 90 days from the purchase date. However, once activated, one-day passes expire at midnight on the same day rather than after a rolling 24-hour period. Passengers are required to scan their digital tickets at both entry and exit points and must keep the code accessible throughout their journey, including during transfers.
