Qatar and Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday, 6 August, to formalise cooperation in nuclear safety and radiation protection. The agreement, signed in Riyadh, establishes a framework for technical collaboration between the two Gulf nations as they expand their respective atomic energy and industrial capabilities. Technical scope and monitoring The bilateral agreement covers several critical technical areas, including the development of advanced radiation monitoring systems and the sharing of laboratory expertise. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the pact focuses on early warning mechanisms for radiological emergencies and the standardisation of safety protocols for the handling of radioactive materials. Officials from the Qatar Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Saudi Ministry of Energy confirmed the partnership includes provisions for training personnel and exchanging technical data.
