Prince Turki Al-Faisal, the former Director-General of Saudi Arabia’s General Intelligence Directorate, has called for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to transition into a formal "Union" to address escalating regional security threats. Speaking at a recent diplomatic forum, the former ambassador to the United States and United Kingdom argued that the current geopolitical climate necessitates a unified military and political front to safeguard the interests of member states. Shifting Regional Security Dynamics Al-Faisal stated that the GCC must evolve beyond its current consultative framework to navigate the "new reality" of the Middle East. He cited the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the direct military exchanges between Israel and Iran as primary drivers for deeper integration.
