Investigations into the fatal shooting at Ateneo de Manila University reveal the weapons belonged to a police officer and a security firm.

MANILA — Philippine investigators have confirmed that the fatal shooting at Ateneo de Manila University was planned for weeks, with the weapons used in the attack traced back to a police officer and a private security agency. The findings, released by the Philippine National Police (PNP), reveal a significant breach in firearm protocols involving state-linked weaponry. Firearms Linked to State and Private Security The primary suspect, Chao-Tiao Yumol, a 38-year-old physician, allegedly used two handguns during the attack at the university’s Quezon City campus. Forensic ballistics and records checks identified a 9mm pistol and a .45 caliber handgun. One of these weapons was registered to an active-duty police officer currently stationed in the Zamboanga Peninsula region. The second firearm was traced to a registered private security firm. The shooting resulted in the deaths of three individuals: former Lamitan City Mayor Rose Furigay, her executive assistant Victor Capistrano, and university security guard Jeneven Bandiala.
