Philippine police prevented a potential mass shooting at a senior high school in Leyte province on Monday after intercepting an 18-year-old suspect who posted violent threats on Facebook. The intervention by law enforcement in Ormoc City followed an alert regarding a social media post that detailed plans for a campus attack. The suspect, a Grade 11 student whose identity has been withheld due to legal procedures, was apprehended by the Ormoc City Police Office (OCPO) shortly after the post began circulating. According to investigators, the student threatened to carry out a killing spree targeting both classmates and faculty members. Seizure of Unlicensed Firearm During the arrest, tactical units recovered a .45 caliber handgun and several rounds of live ammunition from the suspect’s possession. Preliminary reports indicate the firearm was unlicensed. The suspect remains in police custody and faces charges related to grave threats and the illegal possession of firearms under Republic Act 10591.
