OPEC+ Increases UAE Production Quotas to Maintain Alliance Stability

OPEC+ members extend production cuts while granting the UAE a 300,000 barrel-per-day quota increase for 2025.
OPEC+ ministers reached an agreement on Thursday to increase oil production quotas for 2025, a decision aimed at stabilizing market share amidst internal pressures. The move follows months of negotiations regarding baseline capacities, with the United Arab Emirates securing a significant upward revision to its production limits starting next year. UAE Capacity Gains and Quota Adjustments The UAE will see its production reference level rise by 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) to a total of 3.519 million bpd. This adjustment, which will be phased in from January 2025 through the end of September 2025, acknowledges the country's expanded production infrastructure. The alliance also extended the duration of its collective output cuts, keeping roughly 2 million bpd off the market until the end of 2025 to prevent a global supply glut. Eight key members, including Saudi Arabia and Russia, agreed to extend their additional voluntary cuts of 2.2 million bpd until at least the end of September 2024.
