Novo Nordisk Launches Wegovy in UAE as Weight-Loss Demand Surges

Danish pharmaceutical manufacturer Novo Nordisk has officially made Wegovy, its weekly weight-loss injection, available across the UAE. The launch follows regulatory approval from the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), making the country one of the first in the Middle East to provide commercial access to the drug. Prescription Guidelines and Medical Eligibility Wegovy, which contains the active ingredient semaglutide, is approved for chronic weight management in adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or greater. It is also available to individuals with a BMI of 27 kg/m² or higher who possess at least one weight-related comorbid condition, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, or dyslipidemia. Medical professionals emphasize that the treatment must be administered alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. The drug functions by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone, which targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake.
