Novo Nordisk introduces the high-demand semaglutide injection to the Emirates as regional obesity rates drive pharmaceutical demand.

Novo Nordisk has officially released its weight-loss medication, Wegovy, in the United Arab Emirates. The launch marks the first availability of the high-demand semaglutide injection in the Gulf region, targeting a market with some of the highest obesity rates globally. Clinical Efficacy and Regulatory Approval Wegovy, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, is approved by the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) for chronic weight management. The treatment is indicated for adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or greater, or a BMI of 27 or greater for individuals with weight-related conditions such as hypertension or type 2 diabetes. Clinical trial data indicates that patients using the once-weekly 2.4mg injection lost an average of 15% of their body weight over 68 weeks when paired with lifestyle interventions. The medication operates by mimicking a hormone that targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake.
