New UAE payment system Jaywan launches flight booking service via Etihad Airways

The UAE’s national airline has integrated the Jaywan card scheme on its website, offering a local payment alternative for global flight bookings.
Etihad Airways has enabled Jaywan, the UAE’s national domestic card scheme, as a payment method on its official website, making it the first carrier to accept the card for flight bookings. The integration, effective on Wednesday, 19 August, allows passengers to purchase tickets across the airline’s entire global network using the locally developed payment system. Domestic Card Integration Operated by Al Etihad Payments, a subsidiary of the Central Bank of the UAE, Jaywan was officially launched in July 2026. The scheme is designed to provide a domestic alternative for financial transactions, with banks and licensed financial institutions currently rolling out the cards to residents across the country. The digital integration on etihad.com is intended to streamline the checkout process for UAE-based travellers. Mark Potter, Managing Director of Etihad Guest, stated that this implementation follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the airline and Al Etihad Payments in October 2025. He confirmed that the move is the first stage of a broader partnership aimed at integrating local financial services with the aviation sector.
