MoHRE Mandates Five Summer Safety Measures for UAE Private Sector

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation mandates strict hydration and cooling protocols alongside the annual midday work ban for outdoor employees.
The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has detailed five mandatory workplace safety measures to protect outdoor employees during the peak summer heat. These regulations accompany the annual Midday Break policy, which prohibits work under direct sunlight between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM from June 15 to September 15. Mandatory Cooling and Hydration Protocols The ministry requires all employers to provide sufficient quantities of cold drinking water at work sites. Additionally, companies must supply salt supplements and citrus fruits, such as lemons, to help workers maintain electrolyte balance and prevent dehydration. These measures are compulsory for all entities operating outdoor sites to mitigate the risks of heatstroke. Provision of Sheltered Resting Areas Employers are obligated to provide shaded resting areas for staff during the designated break hours. These facilities must be equipped with cooling devices or adequate ventilation to ensure workers can recover from high ambient temperatures.
