A 44-year-old doctor recovers following a complex eight-hour surgery for Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension at Medcare Sharjah.
Medcare Hospital Sharjah has completed the UAE’s first Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA), a specialized procedure to treat Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH). The eight-hour operation was performed on a 44-year-old doctor who had suffered from persistent breathing difficulties despite being on anticoagulant medication for two years. The patient was diagnosed with CTEPH by Dr. Shadi Idris and Dr. Naveed Ahmed at Medcare Hospital Al Safa before being transferred to the Sharjah facility for the intervention. CTEPH is a rare, life-threatening condition where old blood clots clog the lung arteries, leading to high blood pressure in the lungs and potential heart failure. The BPA procedure involves using a balloon-tipped catheter to open these narrowed or blocked arteries.
