A doctor in Malappuram faces negligence charges after an 18-month-old boy died following a routine procedure for a minor lip wound.
Police in Kerala’s Malappuram district have registered a case against a doctor following the death of an 18-month-old boy who was administered anesthesia for a minor surgery to treat a lip injury. The incident occurred at a private hospital where the toddler was taken after suffering a cut to his lip from a fall at home. Medical Negligence Allegations The family of the deceased child, identified as Rudra, alleged that the boy died due to medical negligence during the administration of anesthesia. According to local police reports, the child was shifted to the operation theatre for a routine procedure to stitch the wound. Shortly after anesthesia was administered, the child’s condition deteriorated, and he was subsequently declared dead. The Malappuram police confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to causing death by negligence. The case was registered based on a formal complaint lodged by the toddler’s father, who demanded a thorough investigation into the hospital’s protocols and the doctor's conduct.
