Japan Records Surge in GCC Tourism Arrivals for 2025

Increased flight capacity and visa relaxations drive record visitor numbers from Saudi Arabia and the UAE to Japan in 2025.
Japan has recorded a sharp increase in visitor arrivals from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries during the first quarter of 2025. This surge follows a record-breaking performance in 2024, when the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) identified the Middle East as one of the fastest-growing source markets for high-spending travelers. The primary drivers for this increase include expanded flight connectivity and simplified entry requirements. Major regional carriers, including Emirates, Etihad Airways, and Qatar Airways, have increased flight frequencies to Tokyo’s Narita and Haneda airports, as well as Osaka’s Kansai International. The restoration of direct routes and the deployment of larger aircraft have significantly boosted seat capacity between the Gulf and Japan. Visa Relaxations and Digital Entry Administrative updates have played a critical role in the volume of arrivals. Visa-free entry for UAE nationals and the implementation of electronic visa (e-visa) systems for Saudi Arabian residents and citizens have removed traditional barriers to entry.
