ILT20 Chief Secures Unopposed Win to Shape Asian Cricket Council's Future Strategy

Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Vice-Chairman Khalid Al Zarooni was elected Vice-President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Saturday, 22 August, during the organization’s Annual General Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. Al Zarooni was elected unopposed at the meeting, which was attended by representatives from all ACC member nations. The session addressed key governance updates, including shifts in the Executive Board, the rotation of the ACC Presidency, and the formation of new specialized committees. Al Zarooni currently serves as the chairman of the International League T20 (ILT20) in the UAE, a competition launched in 2022 that has become a staple of the global T20 circuit. Strengthening Regional Governance The appointment follows a period of increased activity for UAE cricket, with the national men’s, women’s, and junior teams securing qualifications for major International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments. Under Al Zarooni’s tenure at the ECB, the UAE has transitioned into a primary hub for international fixtures, hosting various ICC and ACC events. ACC President Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi stated that the decisions made during the Bangkok meeting reflect a collective resolve to build institutions that serve the sport across the continent.
