Formula 1 leadership has re-established formal communications with the management of the Hockenheimring circuit to explore the potential long-term return of the German Grand Prix to the World Championship calendar. The confirmation, delivered by Formula 1 President and Chief Executive Officer Stefano Domenicali, signals a potential revival for one of motorsport’s most historic national races. The official German Grand Prix has been absent from the Formula 1 schedule since 2019, when Hockenheim hosted a wet, unpredictable race won by Max Verstappen. While the Nürburgring stepped in to host the one-off Eifel Grand Prix during the pandemic-affected 2020 season, persistent financial constraints, rising hosting fees, and lack of municipal backing previously rendered a permanent German round commercially unviable.
