The incident occurred during a fixture between North Delhi Strikers and East Delhi Riders, quickly becoming a central talking point of the inaugural T20 tournament. The sequence began when East Delhi Riders batsman Sujal Singh struck a delivery back toward the bowler. Himmat Singh, captain of the North Delhi Strikers, attempted to intercept the ball in the follow-through.
