Gila Community College (GCC) has secured full independent accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), ending a decades-long partnership where it operated under the authority of Eastern Arizona College (EAC). The decision by the HLC Board of Trustees allows the institution to function as a standalone entity with the power to grant its own degrees and certificates. Shift to Institutional Autonomy The transition to independent status follows a multi-year evaluation of the college’s academic frameworks, financial management, and governance. Under the previous arrangement, GCC functioned as a satellite operation, with Eastern Arizona College providing the necessary accreditation for students to receive recognized qualifications.
