Etihad Rail completes first month of Abu Dhabi-Fujairah passenger trials

Etihad Rail has completed its first 30 days of introductory passenger operations between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, signaling the next phase of the UAE’s national rail network expansion. The service currently operates as a limited-entry trial for invited groups and stakeholders before opening to the general public. Infrastructure and Route Timeline The 900-kilometre network now connects the UAE's Ghuweifat border with Saudi Arabia to the port of Fujairah on the eastern coast. While freight operations have been fully functional since early 2023, the passenger service is currently undergoing rigorous testing of station facilities and boarding protocols. Official opening dates for the first public stations in Abu Dhabi’s Al Samha and Fujairah’s Sakamkam are expected to be announced following this introductory phase. Travel times between the capital and the East Coast have been reduced to approximately 100 minutes. The route through the Al Hajar Mountains, featuring 15 tunnels and 35 bridges, is designated as the network's primary scenic corridor.
