Ericsson Forecasts GCC as Early 6G Adopter Due to High 5G Penetration

Ericsson identifies high 5G penetration in GCC as the key driver for the region to lead global 6G deployment by 2030.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is positioned to lead the global transition to 6G technology, according to new analysis from Ericsson. The telecommunications firm identifies the region's high 5G penetration rates as the primary catalyst for early adoption of next-generation mobile networks, with commercial rollouts projected to begin around 2030. Infrastructure Maturity Drives Adoption GCC nations, led by the UAE and Saudi Arabia, currently maintain some of the highest 5G adoption levels globally. This mature infrastructure provides the technical and economic baseline necessary for the shift to 6G. Ericsson’s data suggests that because regional operators have already addressed the complexities of high-density 5G deployment, they are better equipped to integrate the advanced hardware and software required for the succeeding generation. The transition to 6G is expected to move beyond standard mobile broadband. The next-generation technology will focus on "network sensing," which allows the telecommunications fabric to act as a radar-like system, and the native integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to manage massive data loads in real-time.
