UAE expands global sports partnerships to fuel elite talent pipeline

The UAE is scaling up alliances with the NBA, UFC, and top European football leagues to fast-track home-grown athletes toward international podiums.

The UAE increased its portfolio of international sports partnerships on Sunday, 30 August, targeting the development of domestic athletes through expanded agreements with global federations and elite institutions. The initiative spans football, basketball, mixed martial arts, and specialized sports science to accelerate the training of local talent for international competition. Football and Multi-Sport Development Football remains the primary driver of this talent pipeline, utilizing grassroots academies operated by Manchester City, Barcelona, and Real Madrid. Abu Dhabi currently hosts the only Lega Serie A office in the MENA region and maintains a long-term partnership with LaLiga. Beyond the pitch, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi is managing major rights deals with the NBA and UFC to integrate professional standards into the local ecosystem. Technical development has also expanded into modern pentathlon and badminton. For national rugby squads, the UAE has integrated specialized physiological monitoring through Hamilton Sports Science to track athlete performance metrics. The timing of this expansion follows a series of new agreements aimed at utilizing the UAE’s existing infrastructure for year-round elite training.
