Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has resumed operations at its Al Taweelah alumina refinery following a disruption caused by the regional tensions of March 28. The UAE industrial giant confirmed it expects to reach full production capacity by the end of 2024. Production targets and capacity The Abu Dhabi-based refinery, which converts bauxite ore into alumina—the raw material for aluminium smelters—is a critical node in the UAE’s industrial supply chain. EGA stated that the technical capability to ramp up to 100% output is now the primary objective for the remaining three quarters of the year. The facility typically meets 40% of EGA’s alumina requirements, reducing reliance on imports. The restart follows a temporary suspension of activities connected to the events of March 28.
