EGA Opens UAE’s Largest Aluminium Recycling Plant in Abu Dhabi

EGA's new Al Taweelah facility will process 170,000 tonnes of scrap annually to produce low-carbon secondary aluminium.

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has inaugurated its first dedicated aluminium recycling plant at its Al Taweelah site in Abu Dhabi. The facility is the largest of its kind in the UAE, designed to process 170,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap annually to meet rising global demand for low-carbon industrial materials. Industrial Capacity and Output The new plant focuses on converting post-consumer and pre-consumer aluminium scrap into high-quality billets. This recycled metal is marketed under the product name RevivAL. According to EGA, the recycling process requires approximately 95% less energy than the production of primary aluminium, significantly reducing the carbon intensity of the finished product. The Al Taweelah facility integrates into EGA’s existing smelting operations, allowing the company to blend recycled material with its primary "CelestiAL" solar-powered aluminium. This combination targets sectors such as automotive and construction, where manufacturers face increasing regulatory pressure to lower their supply chain emissions. Market Context and Sustainability The inauguration follows a multi-year construction phase and forms a core component of the UAE’s broader…
