Abu Dhabi-based EDGE Group is acquiring EU firms and establishing local operations to compete for major European Union defense contracts.

EDGE Group, the UAE’s state-owned defense technology conglomerate, has initiated a multi-phase expansion into the European defense sector. The group is moving to transition from a regional supplier to a recognized European "prime" contractor, a status that would allow it to lead major defense programs and secure multi-year procurement contracts within the European Union. Strategic Acquisitions in Eastern Europe A central component of this strategy involves the acquisition of specialized European defense firms to bypass traditional market barriers. EDGE recently secured a majority stake in Estonia-based Milrem Robotics , a developer of autonomous ground vehicles (UGVs). This was followed by a strategic investment in Poland’s Flaris , which focuses on high-speed tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). By acquiring these entities, EDGE gains direct access to European intellectual property and established industrial supply chains.
