DXB predicts record-breaking traffic surge as global airline capacity rebounds

Dubai International (DXB) is projected to reach 100 million annual passengers within the next 18 months, according to Dubai Airports Chief Executive Paul Griffiths. Speaking at a media roundtable on Wednesday, 26 August, Griffiths noted that the revised timeline follows a recovery period after operational disruptions earlier this year. Revised traffic projections The airport expects to conclude 2026 with passenger volumes in the "low 70 millions," a figure Griffiths described as a strong indicator of recovery compared to the 95.2 million passengers handled last year. Despite currently holding the second-place position for international travel in the first half of the year, the CEO remains confident that DXB will reclaim its status as the world’s busiest international hub by the end of December. The temporary dip in rankings was attributed to two months of flight disruptions caused by regional security incidents. Griffiths confirmed that most damage resulting from these events was resolved within 30 days. Passenger numbers are currently at 80 per cent of pre-disruption levels, while airline capacity has recovered to 86 per cent.
